Log Cabin F & Q: Q. What kind of Logs do you use? A. Northern white cedar - it grows abundantly in the forests of Maine; according to technical information we have, it is one of the warmest of woods, having high insulation value - and it is insect and rot resistant. It does not usually need stain or preservative! Q. Can we build it ourselves? A. You may if you wish - many customers do. We provide blueprints, construction manual, and specification sheets. Many of our dealers are also experienced builders and they will work closely with you to see that your building goes up without any problems. Q. What kind of foundation do I need? A. Any conventional foundation - slab, full or daylight basement may be used. Q. How are the logs milled? A. After the logs have been sawn, they are milled on three sides, with a half-inch groove in the bottom edge and matching tongue on the top edge. They are beveled, top and bottom, for water run-off. Q. Can we change the design? A. Certainly! All our standard models are easily modified, or you can do as many people do and design your own home. If you have a sketch or idea you want to incorporate, our design team will create a plan just for you. The cost of this service is credited when you purchase your Maine Cedar Log Home. Q. How do you deliver? A. We generally can deliver within 4-6 weeks from date of order. We schedule the delivery when you are ready for it. On long deliveries, we use 45 ft. tractor-trailers; it is the customer's responsibility to arrange for unloading; we allow 5 hours to unload, and although 5 or 6 people can usually accomplish the job in that time, we recommend a light crane or forklift. Shipping rates are based on the loaded mile and we will gladly quote you estimated rates. On local deliveries, within a 50-mile radius of our plant, our 16 ft. truck will make several deliveries, as needed. In all cases, the site and roads must be accessible, On local deliveries, no customer assistance is needed in unloading. Q. What about prefabrication? A. Prefab is fast becoming the preferred way to build, saving many hours of on-site labor. We manufacture walls 8' to 12' long, with doors and windows installed. Gable panels are prefabricated and strict quality control assures you of a will-built, quality home. Most of the homes we sell are prefabricated. Through the use of overlapping and splice logs, today's prefabricated log homes look nearly identical to a site built home. Q. Where can I see one of your homes? A. We have a display home at the factory, open year round, 9-5, Monday through Saturday - and many of our Authorized Dealers have display models. In addition, a lot of our customers are happy to show their home. Generally, we can provide you with their name and address and arrange for a time for you to look at their log home. Q. What options do you offer? A. Our personnel can discuss many options with you - including choice of window, doors, and other components; you may want to add skylights, or a greenhouse. These and many other options are available. Q. Does your company finance the homes? A. We don't finance our log homes, but our personnel or dealers can recommend financial institutions or plans. Some of our models have been FmHA approved. There are several methods of payment for your log home and attractive discounts are sometimes offered. Q. What about a builder? A. Our sales people can recommend builders in most areas, who have had experience building our log homes. Most of our Authorized Dealers are either builders or can also recommend reputable experienced contractors.

The special feature of our log homes is the flexibility of the interior design; you can decorate as you like, because the interior walls are smooth. Easily adaptable to sheetrock, paneling, cedar or pine boards...the choice is yours. These pictures will give you an idea of how some of our customers have decorated the inside of their Maine Cedar Log Homes. Hundreds of people have modified, re-designed, and changed our standard models. we're that flexible. Unlike whole log homes, the construction method of our walls utilize framed and sheathed construction, much like that in a conventionally built home. Wiring, plumbing and heating elements are easily installed, as is insulation.
